Week 4 of Talent Path – Connecting Technology and Business

This is awesome. Finally, my turn to share what is happening here in week 4 of Talent Path. My decision to join this program is being refortified every day. I was hearing from every potential employer that I needed experience to get the job and that I need some professional skills under my belt. It is all here and the best part is that we are getting closer to joining our final roles.
This week has been all about our actual role, Business Analysis. I learned about the importance of connecting technology and business. I studied Computer Information Systems at the University of Houston, but my degree really focused on the technical side of IT. I never really saw the value of connecting the technical and business until Week 4, Business Analysis week. Employees who are able to connect these two different aspects can greatly improve a company. Business Analysts are the median of the IT department and the business users in developing applications or other IT aspects.
Our role as a Business Analyst is to understand the requirements of the business side and translate them to the IT department on what is needed on certain projects. At Talent Path, we learned about different Business Analyst techniques and practiced them with real world case studies.
My favorite and most effective activity was going out to a client and studying their business process. We would observe their process and see what recommendations could be done. We created numerous deliverables which would build up to our final solution. After having a solution, we practiced presenting our solution to clients and learned about the importance of communication.
If you are hearing that you need experience and you want to get into a technology talent path then this program is for you. I am a full-time employee with Talent Path and am being readied for my role as a Business Analyst. Why would anyone pay for this education when they can be paid and have the role they want waiting for them on the other side?
